Shruthi Velidi

Shruthi Velidi is the founder of Communitek, a platform helping organizations scale and govern AI applications with trust, safety and equity, with a core focus on post-deployment evaluations that leverage context-specific feedback from impacted communities. She previously helped lead Visa’s first global Responsible AI strategy across Asia Pacific, UK/EU, North America, the Middle East and Latin America. She has also served as a fellow at the World Economic Forum’s Data for Common Purpose Initiative and at the National Council on AI, driving global standards for AI governance in regulated industries. Shruthi was named one of 2023's "100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics." 

She was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar at the Nordic Centre for Internet and Society, where her research on algorithmic profiling systems and their chilling effects on user behavior has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Computer Law & Security Review and Information, Communication, & Society. Based in New York City, she advises city and state officials, including the NYC Council Committee on Technology and the NY State Committee on Internet and Technology, on tech policy legislation spanning the digital divide, broadband, AI and privacy.

Shruthi holds a bachelor's degree in cognitive sciences (conc. human-computerinteraction) with a distinction in research from Rice University, where she served as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of The Rice Journal of Public Policy, published by the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy.
