Normative Ethics, Value Theory
I develop a value fulfillment theory of well-being arguing that to live well is to fulfill values that are authentic and justifiable after critical reflection. Call my account "Well-being as fulfilling values that survive critical reflection." From this I have been developing two lines of research: one is more theoretical focusing on effective engagement across different value systems and the other is more practical focusing on biomedical ethics. I am interested in Biomedical Ethics, Environmental Philosophy, History of Ethics, Social and Political philosophy, and Chinese Philosophy. I am a predoctoral fellow at the Center for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences at Rice. Besides doing philosophy, I also enjoy teaching very much.
