Normative Ethics, Value Theory
My dissertation is to propose an account of wellbeing arguing that an individual’s wellbeing consists in attaining values and commitments which survive critical reflection and guide one toward leading a life that is both authentically one’s own and justifiable to others. From this I have been developing two lines of research: one is more theoretical focusing on effective engagement across different value systems and the other is more practical focusing on biomedical ethics. I am interested in Biomedical Ethics, Environmental Philosophy, History of Ethics, Social and Political philosophy, and Chinese Philosophy. I am a predoctoral fellow at the Center for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences at Rice.
