Ethics of Technology

As technology continues to advance at a breakneck pace, we cannot allow our values to be left behind. Indeed, our values need to guide progress rather than race to catch up with technologies that are woven into our lives before we have had a chance to think.

The Rice Philosophy Department, along with partners from across the University, aspires to be a hub for research, teaching and outreach when it comes to a world undergoing unprecedented transformation.

In this emerging field, we bring a rich heritage of ethical theory to bear upon crucial questions and decisions which are now shaping our future.

  • What is the value of privacy?
  • How will AI redefine work and employment?
  • What sorts of decisions should we allow AI to make?
